Winter is finally saying goodbye and we are welcoming warmer times. This means the timing is perfect for you to take care of your HVAC system. Let’s discuss some of the top items to prep you and your HVAC system for warmer days.
1. Inspection.
First of all, a quick inspection is something you can do by yourself. It is only to see if everything seems alright and nothing is broken after winter. If there are any leaks or odd sounds that you are not used to, then it’s time to call a HVAC contractor.
2. Maintenance.
But even if nothing is broken, it is still recommended that you schedule a HVAC maintenance visit starting this new season, it gives you enough time to repair everything you have to and have it ready for the extreme temperatures to come. Don’t wait until summer hits to check on your air conditioning, because more people will need a HVAC visit then.
After a good HVAC technician visit, your HVAC system should be running ok. They normally take care of all the components and give your system a good cleaning, which not only is supposed to enhance its current performance, but also to extend its useful life.
Now, there is more to do:
3. Filters.
A dirty filter is no good for the air to go by, so remember to give them a monthly check at least and change them if necessary. Failing to keep your filters clean and working properly can cause big issues down the road and cost you in your electric bill with an HVAC system that has to work harder or breaks.
This season is the moment you’ve waiting for to change your air filters.
4. The condenser.
This stands outside your house so after a rough winter it went through a lot, so now it is time to give it a good cleaning with a brush or similar.
For the inside of the condenser, don’t forget to first turn the power off. Then you can remove the dirt with a brush and use a hose if it has any buildup of dirt.
The condenser is very important for the AC to function correctly. We suggest inspecting the area around your condenser for any debris or vegetation. The condenser needs the proper space and airflow to properly work, you don’t want any leaves going into it. Call for a tree service here if you need help.
5. Smart thermostat.
If you don’t have one of these at home, extreme temperatures to come can really hit you and a common suggestion would be to acquire one.
Now, in case you already have one at home, this might be a good time to check the settings. The better setted it is, the more energy-efficient it’d be.
6. Vents.
And last but not least, make sure your vents are not being blocked because that can cause damages to your HVAC system. They are made to let the air flow and a blocked return vent can cause your system to work harder. This can mean a higher electric bill or a system that doesn’t last as long.
